Green ICT

#Data centres #Power #Security

We use energy from a renewable source, namely our own wind turbine. Datacenter Groningen was one of the first data centres in the Netherlands to run on 100% sustainable electricity. Fortunately, more and more data centres are making the switch. ICT energy consumption is only increasing with the growth of online services and cloud-based systems.

Energy-efficient cooling

By opting for innovative cooling systems such as ‘freecooling’ and ‘cold-corridor’, we can also significantly reduce energy consumption. For cooling, ‘direct freecooling’ is used as much as possible. Because the temperature inside is usually higher than the temperature outside, cooling can be done using outside air. This relieves not only the environment, but also your wallet.

Efficient power consumption

Datacenter Groningen has thought about energy and environmental savings throughout the building. Equipment is automatically switched off when not in use and lighting is only switched on when there is movement in the room.

Environmentally friendly extinguishing

In the unlikely event of a fire breaking out in the data centre, IG100®, an inert extinguishing gas, is used for extinguishing purposes. This is a mixture of nitrogen and argon, two substances already present in the air. Advantages of this extinguishing method include: the equipment in the room is not affected by corrosion or residue and the mixture is not harmful to the environment.
